Olivaro Side Effects: What to Watch For and When to Stop
Possible Olivaro side effects come from its ingredients, such as caffeine jitters and stomach upset.
Licorice may raise blood pressure, and grapefruit and L-tryptophan can interact with some drugs. People on insulin or sulfonylureas should watch for low blood sugar.
Stop and call your doctor if anything new appears. See who should ask a doctor first.

The short version
Is Olivaro safe to take?
For many healthy adults, 1 or 2 droppers a day is unlikely to cause much. The blend is only 200 mg per dropper, shared by 22 ingredients. The real concerns are medicines and existing health conditions.
No trial has tested Olivaro, so every note below comes from research on single ingredients, usually at far larger doses. We do not know each ingredient's amount, because a proprietary blend shows only the total (21 CFR 101.36 (eCFR)). That uncertainty is itself a reason to be careful.
The label warning reads: "Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement."

By ingredient
What side effects can Olivaro's ingredients cause?
The ingredients with the clearest safety notes, in plain words, with sources.
| Ingredient | What can happen | Who should care most | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guarana and green tea (caffeine) | Jitters, fast heartbeat, trouble sleeping, nausea | Caffeine-sensitive people; heavy coffee drinkers | (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?) (MSKCC, Guarana) |
| Gymnema | Sweet foods taste flat for a while; one reversible liver case | People on diabetes drugs | (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph) |
| Monoammonium glycyrrhizinate (licorice) | Higher blood pressure; irregular heartbeat with large or long use | High blood pressure, heart disease, pregnancy | (NCCIH, Licorice Root) |
| Grapefruit extract | Some drugs can build up in the blood | Statin, blood pressure, heart-rhythm and transplant drug users | (FDA, Grapefruit juice and drugs) |
| L-tryptophan | Too much serotonin when mixed with certain drugs | MAOI, tramadol and other serotonin drug users | (Drugs.com, L-tryptophan) |
| Panax ginseng | Insomnia; may lower blood sugar; may affect clotting | Diabetes drugs, blood thinners, pregnancy | (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng) |
| African mango | Gas, headache, sleep problems | Diabetes drug users | (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)) |
| Coleus forskohlii | Low blood pressure, slow heart rate, diarrhea | Blood pressure and blood thinner users | (MSKCC, Forskolin (Coleus forskohlii)) |
| Capsicum | Stomach irritation; cough with ACE inhibitors | Sensitive stomachs | (MSKCC, Cayenne (Capsicum)) |
| Chromium | May add to diabetes drugs; may cut levothyroxine absorption | Insulin and thyroid medicine users | (NIH ODS, Chromium) |
GABA, L-tyrosine and L-ornithine are also in the blend. No reliable dose or safety data was found for them at this amount.
Everyday effects
What are the most likely mild side effects?
Mild stomach upset, a change in sweet taste and caffeine jitters are the most plausible. All three tend to fade when you stop.
Upset stomach
Capsicum can irritate the stomach (MSKCC, Cayenne (Capsicum)), and arginine is linked to bloating or nausea at large doses (MSKCC, Arginine). Taking the dropper with breakfast may help.
Sweets taste different
Gymnema is best known for dulling sweet taste for a short time (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph). It is harmless but surprising the first time.
Jitters or poor sleep
Guarana, green tea and ginseng can all keep you up (MSKCC, Guarana) (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng). A morning dose is the simple fix.
Caffeine is not listed in milligrams. Since the whole blend is at most 400 mg a day, caffeine cannot come near FDA's 400 mg daily reference for healthy adults (FDA, Caffeine: how much is too much?). Coffee, tea and energy drinks still add up on top.
The biggest risk
Can Olivaro cause low blood sugar?
It might, for people who take insulin, a sulfonylurea or a meglitinide. Chromium, ginseng, gymnema and African mango may add to those drugs (NIH ODS, Chromium) (NCCIH, Asian Ginseng) (Drugs.com, Gymnema monograph) (MSKCC, Irvingia gabonensis (African mango)). The American Diabetes Association warns that some supplements can cause lows when combined with diabetes medicine (ADA, Vitamins & Supplements).
Low blood sugar usually means a reading below 70 mg/dL (NIDDK, Low Blood Glucose). Know the signs:
- Shakiness or sweating
- Sudden hunger
- Dizziness or confusion
- A fast heartbeat
Check your sugar if you can. NIDDK's advice is 15-20 g of fast carbohydrate, then a recheck in 15 minutes (NIDDK, Low Blood Glucose). Severe lows can cause seizures or fainting: call 911.
Never change a diabetes medicine without talking to your doctor first. Do not lower a dose on your own because you started drops.
Medicines
Which medicines may interact with Olivaro?
Diabetes, blood pressure, statin, blood-thinning, antidepressant and thyroid drugs are the main groups. Bring the label to your pharmacist, who can check your exact list.
Olivaro is not a diabetes medicine; it is a dietary supplement. Ask your doctor first if you take insulin or other diabetes medicine, blood pressure, heart-rhythm, statin, blood-thinning, thyroid or antidepressant drugs, or if you are pregnant or nursing: the blend includes ginseng, gymnema, chromium, grapefruit, licorice, coleus, guarana and L-tryptophan. See side effects and interactions.
- Grapefruit: FDA says it can raise levels of some statins and other drugs; not every drug in a class is affected (FDA, Grapefruit juice and drugs).
- L-tryptophan: do not combine with MAOIs, tramadol, dextromethorphan or 5-HTP without advice (Drugs.com, L-tryptophan).
- Eleuthero: can raise digoxin levels and skew the test (MSKCC, Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthero)).
- Green tea: may lower levels of the beta-blocker nadolol (NCCIH, Green Tea).
- Astragalus: may clash with immune-suppressing drugs (NCCIH, Astragalus).

Is Olivaro dangerous to dogs?
Yes, it can be. The other ingredients include xylitol, which can drop a dog's blood sugar fast, within 10-60 minutes, causing vomiting, weakness, collapse or seizures (FDA, Paws Off Xylitol).
Xylitol does not act this way in people. Store the bottle high and closed, and wipe up spills. If a dog may have swallowed any, call your vet or an animal poison line at once. Storage tips are on the how to use Olivaro page.
If something feels wrong

Can a blood sugar supplement contain hidden drugs?
Some have. An analysis of FDA data found 776 supplements with hidden drug ingredients from 2007 to 2016, and about 41% were weight-loss products (Tucker et al., JAMA Netw Open 2018). FDA has also warned companies selling illegal diabetes products (FDA, Illegally Sold Diabetes Treatments).

Bottom line
Olivaro safety in short
Everyday side effects are likely mild for healthy adults. The serious risks sit with diabetes drugs, blood pressure, interacting medicines and dogs. Ask first, watch for lows, and stop if something feels wrong.
FAQ
Olivaro side effects: common questions
What are the side effects of Olivaro?
Nobody has studied side effects of Olivaro itself. Its ingredients are linked to caffeine jitters, poor sleep, stomach upset, a dulled sweet taste, and, for some people, higher blood pressure or drug interactions. Stop and call your doctor if you notice anything new after starting.
Does Olivaro have caffeine?
Yes, some. Guarana and green tea extract are caffeine sources, but the label does not list a caffeine amount. Because the whole blend is at most 400 mg a day, caffeine cannot approach FDA's 400 mg daily reference. Sensitive people should still take it in the morning.
Can Olivaro raise blood pressure?
It might for some people. The blend contains monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, a licorice compound, and licorice can raise blood pressure, even in small amounts for people who already have high pressure. Check your readings and ask your doctor before starting if you have hypertension.
Can Olivaro cause low blood sugar?
It could if you take insulin, a sulfonylurea or a meglitinide. Chromium, ginseng, gymnema and African mango may add to those drugs. Watch for shakiness, sweating, hunger, confusion or a fast heartbeat, and talk to your doctor before starting.
Can I take Olivaro with a statin?
Ask your pharmacist first. Olivaro lists grapefruit extract, and grapefruit can raise blood levels of some statins and other drugs. The amount in the blend is not printed, so nobody can say how strong the effect would be.
Why do sweets taste different after taking Olivaro?
Gymnema leaf extract, one of the blend ingredients, is known for dulling sweet taste for a short time. The effect is temporary and not harmful. If it bothers you, mention it to your doctor or stop the drops.
How do I report a reaction to Olivaro?
Stop taking it and get medical care first. Then you or your doctor can report the reaction to FDA's MedWatch program. Keep the bottle and lot number, and call the order desk at +1 (855) 889-3137 about a refund.
